Scan a barcode or label and you'll see a clear health score, the Nutri-Score and NOVA processing level, additives that are flagged around the world, allergens, and whether the product fits your diet — all in plain language. It's built for India and the products on Indian shelves.

How does scanning work?

Point your camera at a product's barcode or at the ingredient label itself. Scroov reads the text right on your device, identifies the product, and pulls together everything it knows about it in seconds. There's nothing to type, and you can also search the database by name or brand if a barcode won't scan.

What is the SafeScan score?

SafeScan is a single score from 0 to 100 that summarises how a product stacks up — the higher the better. It considers things like nutrition, the level of processing, and any flagged additives, so you get an at-a-glance read without having to interpret the label yourself. We show it alongside the Nutri-Score and NOVA level so you can dig deeper when you want to. All of these are automatically calculated estimates meant to guide you, not to replace the information on the actual pack.

What do Nutri-Score and NOVA mean?

Nutri-Score is a letter rating from A to E that reflects a product's overall nutritional quality. NOVA is a 1-to-4 classification of how processed a food is, where 1 is unprocessed or minimally processed and 4 is ultra-processed. Together they give you a quick sense of both how nutritious and how processed something is.

Why are some additives flagged?

Different countries regulate food additives differently — an ingredient that's allowed in one place may be restricted or banned in another. Scroov shows you when an additive is flagged by references such as the EU, FDA, FSSAI, or Singapore, along with a plain-language note on what the additive is and why it's flagged, so you can decide what you're comfortable with.

Can I rely on Scroov if I have a food allergy?

Please don't rely on Scroov for allergy, medical, or dietary decisions. Ingredient, allergen, and dietary information can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, and products are reformulated and relabelled all the time. Always read the physical product label and consult a qualified doctor or dietitian before consuming or buying a product. Where Scroov differs from the actual packaging, the packaging from the manufacturer always takes precedence.

Where does the information come from, and is it always accurate?

Scroov draws on many public and third-party sources — manufacturer declarations, barcode registries, public databases like Open Food Facts, regulatory references, and image and text recognition. Because of this, the data can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect, and the same barcode can point to different formulations over time. We don't independently verify every entry, so treat Scroov as a guide for general awareness and always check the product's actual label before relying on it.

A product was missing or its details looked wrong. What can I do?

Trust the product's actual packaging over the app, and then let us know — email support@scroov.in with the product and what looked off. Your reports help us correct entries and grow the database for everyone.

Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

No. Scroov works without any sign-up. Your scan history is kept on your device and tied to a random identifier rather than to your name or email, so you can just open the app and start scanning.

Question 10

How is my data handled, and how do I delete it?

Accepted Answer

Your scans stay on your device under a random identifier, not your personal details. Deleting the app removes that scan history and identifier. If you'd like any scan data held on our servers removed, email support@scroov.in and we'll help. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
