Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 10, 2026

Scroov helps you understand what is in packaged food and consumer products. We built it to collect as little personal information as possible, and you do not need an account to use it. This policy explains the limited information involved when you use Scroov and how it is handled.

1. No Account Required

Scroov does not require you to create an account or to provide your name, email address, phone number, or date of birth in order to scan products and use the app.

2. Camera, Photos, and Scanning

To identify a product, Scroov uses your device camera to scan barcodes and read product labels. Text recognition of labels is performed on your device. When the app needs to identify a product or analyze its ingredients, the captured image and the recognized text are sent to our servers (api.scroov.in) for that purpose only. This information is used to match the product and return ingredient and safety information; it is not used to identify you and is not linked to your name or contact details. We may retain submitted images and recognized text to improve product matching and the accuracy of our database. Images are only captured when you actively scan — Scroov does not browse or upload your photo library.

3. Device Identifier and Scan History

When you first open Scroov, the app generates a random identifier and stores it on your device. This identifier lets the app keep your scan history and show your recently scanned products. It is not your Apple ID, name, or email address, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.

4. Advertising

Scroov is free and supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob (provided by Google). Depending on your region, you may see a consent prompt (shown through Google's User Messaging Platform) asking whether ads may be personalized. To serve, measure, and limit the frequency of ads, Google may collect device and usage information such as device and advertising identifiers, IP address, and ad-interaction data, in accordance with Google's own policies. You can learn how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. On iOS, you can also limit ad tracking in your device's privacy settings.

5. Information Sent When You Use the App

When you search for products, open product details, or load articles, your requests are sent to our servers. As with any internet service, these requests include your device's IP address, which is used to deliver the response and keep the service secure and reliable — not to identify you personally.

6. Service Providers

We rely on a small number of providers to operate Scroov: Cloudflare (hosting, content delivery, and our product API) and Google (AdMob advertising and consent management). These providers process information only to provide their service to us. Any interactions with the App Store are handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.

7. What We Do Not Collect

Scroov does not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, health records, or any government identifiers. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your scan history is associated with the random identifier stored on your device. You can clear it by deleting the app, which removes the locally stored identifier. If you would like us to delete scan data associated with your device, contact us at support@scroov.in and we will assist with your request.

9. Children's Privacy

Scroov is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will remove it.

10. International Users

Scroov is operated from India and is intended primarily for users in India. By using the app, you understand that information may be processed on servers located in or outside your country.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
